Metallic Filter Elements, Candles & Strainers Custom Manufactured Filter Elements

Carbis Filtration manufacture high quality metallic filter elements, candles, screens, strainers and baskets of varying designs and characteristics, offering excellent mechanical and corrosion resistance. With the availability of our exceptional range of metallic medias and the flexibility of product form and shape we can offer filters to suit numerous applications.

Carbis metallic filters find use where the operational environment requires the robust design and resistance to aggressive fluids and gases provided by a metallic structure, such as high pressure gas and liquid filtration, steam filtration, gas compression, catalyst recovery and polymer filtration.

We employ specially developed metallic filter media’s allowing the manufacture of filters with pore sizes down to 2 m absolute. Typical industries served %include chemical, oil and gas, pharmaceutical, water, petrochemical, nuclear power and aerospace.

Standard materials of construction allow for use from -150°C to + 400°C and up to 25 bar differential pressure. Higher operating temperatures, differential pressures and corrosion resistance may be accommodated by design and by the employment of alternative materials such, as Duplex, Super Duplex, Monel, Inconel, Hastelloy and other alloy materials.

Custom Manufactured and Industry Standard Filters.

We offer custom manufactured filters and filters to suit existing ‘Industry Standard’ equipment. Carbis reusable metal filter elements are widely used as direct replacements of disposable polymeric type filters, our metallic elements offer many advantages including:

  • Reduced OPEX costs.
  • High Strength.
  • Continuous operating temperature range of –50°C to 550°C
  • Abrasion resistant.
  • Precise pore size distributions and fluid flow permeability.
  • Dimensionally stable.
  • Re-generable media offering long life.
  • Back washable allowing longer operating life, reducing down time and reduced operator intervention.
  • Higher dP capabilities offering longer service life.

Media Options:

Carbis Woven Wire Cloth:

Uniform precision woven metallic wire offering nominal and absolute micron ratings of 1000 m – 3 m. Material grades available, 304, 316, Alloy 400, Alloy 600, Alloy 800, Duplex, Super Duplex and Hastelloy.

Woven Wire Cloth

Carbis Sintered Wire Cloth:

Multiple layers of woven wire mesh laminated together using a diffusion-bonding process (more commonly known as sintering). This process combines heat and pressure to permanently bond multi layers of mesh together. The same physical process used to fuse individual wires together within a layer of wire mesh is also be used to fuse adjacent layers of mesh together. This creates a unique material offering excellent mechanical properties.

Multiple layers of diffusion-bonded wire cloth can be pleated to maximize filter area and on-stream life. Contaminants are captured on the upstream surface of the media, where it is easily removed or backwashed.

Our sintered mesh panels are manufactured in 300×1500 mm panels, these panels may be cut into smaller sections or laser cut into discs and custom shapes or formed into cones and cylinders. Larger sheets can be produced by welding several panels together, for applications such as fluid bed driers.

Cylinders of our sintered mesh combined with our wedge wire screens as supports, offer high pressure filters, back washable elements suitable for the most demanding of applications.

Our standard stock material is manufactured in 316SS, however we also offer material in Duplex, Super Duplex, Monel and Hastelloy.

Carbis Sintered Metal Fibre:

Stainless steel fibres manufactured using a diffusion bonding process. The combination of fibre weight, diameter and porosity produce a media that offers high permeability, low pressure drop and high dirt holding capacity. The fibre media can be supported between two or more layers of wire cloth and pleated offering high flow filter elements and candles. Manufactured as standard in 316SS, with some exotics available.

Carbis Wedge Wire Screens

High flow efficiency combined with excellent hydraulic characteristics and good resistance against collapse and burst pressure, allows us to manufacture a large range of filters from small diameter high pressure elements to large complex structures such as gas compressor screens. Slot openings of 0.02 mm (20 microns) to 20 mm.

For more detailed information see our product section Wedge Wire Screens.

Carbis Porous Metal Powder

Sintered porous metal is a proven, reliable, long-lasting media offering efficient particle removal, flow control, sound attenuation, and gas/liquid contacting. Our strictly controlled sintering process produces uniformly-sized pores in micron ratings from 0.2 to 200. Metallic particles of defined shape and size are pre-formed and then metallurgically bonded. The interstices between the sintered particles form a permanent structure of pores whose size and distribution depends on both the raw material and the sintering process itself. We offer our sintered pours material in 316SS as standard with some exotics available depending of quantity and complexity.

Carbis Perforated Plate

Punched plate with hole diameters and material thicknesses from 0.3 mm to 20 mm, available in a wide range of materials including 316, Duplex, Super Duplex, Hastelloy, Alloys 400, 600, 625 and 800.
